ePlanning Project

The LGMA is working on a major project to bring the planning application process online.

At present, it is not possible for members of the public, developers or agents to make planning applications online in most local authorities. This means that applications must be submitted in hard copy to the local authority, often including a multitude of documents, maps, drawings, newspaper notices, etc.

The ePlanning Project will develop an online system through which planning applications can be made and through which applicants will be kept updated on the progress of their application.

The project aims to improve efficiency, reduce the potential for invalid applications, and deliver on the government strategy to move more public services online.

Project progress

The ePlanning project is currently in development stage and we are consulting closely with all local authorities to ensure the system will meet requirements and integrate to the greatest extent possible with existing systems.

The project is being approached on a phased basis, with development, testing and roll-out of system features and functionality to be implemented in a step-by-step manner.

It is hoped that the first live roll-out phase will allow for the submission of planning applications online with follow up notifications. Additional functionality will be added in further phases.
