The Roads Management Office and LGMA have recently released a software upgrade to the MapRoad Asset Management System that allows it to capture cycling and pedestrian infrastructure and projects.
The new active travel module has the functionality to capture existing cycling and pedestrian infrastructure, as well as to capture ongoing projects and programmes.
The upgrade was the result of significant collaboration with the Department of Transport, National Transport Authority and Transport Infrastructure Ireland to develop the software tools, functionality, and system logic.
The RMO are currently capturing active travel infrastructure, inventory and projects on behalf of the NTA based on the grant allocations for 2022 and will continue to record this data into the future.
Capturing this active travel infrastructure asset data will provide spatial information on active travel infrastructure being built in Ireland and project details including costs, materials, and status.
The information and data collected on these projects will provide valuable asset information on the active travel network and provide a process for determining the lifecycle of projects as well as for managing project maintenance into the future.
