Highlighted Project:

Protect Our Water
The development and implementation of an on-line registration system for domestic wastewater treatment systems (Protect Our Water).
The driving force behind the project is the Water Services (Amendment) Act 2012, which provides for the introduction of a registration and inspection system for domestic wastewater treatment systems. It has been introduced to address the European Court of Justice ruling against Ireland in October 2009, and even more importantly, to protect ground and surface water quality (particularly drinking water sources) from the risks posed by malfunctioning systems. All owners of premises connected to a domestic wastewater treatment system are required to register their systems.
The system has been live since June 26th 2012 and the bureau support service is being provided by LGMA.
Further development work is underway to enhance this system into a fully fledged Register as required by the legislation.
